Friends of Malmesbury Primary School (FOMPS)

Welcome to the Friends!

We are the school PTA, a registered charity that raises funds to enhance the learning experience of the children at the school by providing engaging and fun activities and resources. Whilst we have a core Committee with three elected roles, we are collectively a much larger group of parents, grandparents, carers and volunteers who come together to have fun and raise money at the same time.

Our events

The Planetarium came to school with special shows for all pupils. The planetarium looked like a  circus dome from the outside, but inside was an amazing and immersive educational cinema. The visit was a really inclusive event for the entire Malmesbury community, and a huge success!

Our fantastic Art Gallery  was a great success, with pupils proudly displaying their work which was available for sale from Mini Masterworks. The displays looked beautiful and all the art work was of a high standard. Not only was it a successful fundraising event,  the children had a chance to get involved and feel like they had really achieved something impressive.

The Universally Challenged School Quiz is one for the grown ups! Usually in early March, it is always a highly entertaining evening and a chance to see our teaching staff at their comedy best. The competitive spirit among the teams is intense, fuelled by a well stocked bar (empty by the end of the evening) and a light supper.

At the end of every other term the Dizzy Feet Disco is a hugely popular event with the children. There are separate discos on the same evening for Infants and Juniors with drinks and snacks to keep energy levels up, tattoos and pocket money toys.

The Summer Fete is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It is teamwork at its best with teachers, children, parents, carers, and even local clubs and businesses all getting involved to pull together a great evening of activities, arena displays, raffle prizes, food and drink. The event is usually on the first Friday of July.

The Gifts Rooms for Mother’s and Father’s Day, and Christmas are a great opportunity for the children to independently choose and buy small gifts for their loved ones on these special occasions.

Where the money goes

£5,000 towards to the development of the Foundation Stage playground.

Key Stage 1 enjoyed a circus skills workshop linked to their IPC theme.

A theatre production for the whole school to support book week. This year the school saw the Wizard of Oz performed by the Hobgoblin Theatre Company, and last year pupils were treated to Alice In Wonderland which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

All year groups are allocated a pot of Friends money every academic year which they can spend on a treat or additional activity to support their IPC topics. The children have enjoyed some great experiences such as the Wild Man with his mini beasts and pond dipping activities, a Native American show with traditional songs, dances and stories, a poetry workshop, an Adventure School, a Paint a Plate Workshop and Spy School.

In recent years we have also funded and collated a leavers book for year 6 pupils as a special souvenir of their time at Malmesbury Primary.

Additional games have been bought for each KS2 class to use during wet play based on the children’s own choices. Similarly the lunchtime Games Club were able to buy more board games and lots of Lego, and the KS2 playground now has additional basket ball hoops, skipping ropes and other fun equipment.
